Supporting the Historic Car World

The following are some typical projects that we have completed or are currently in our workshops.

1 of only 16 XKSS’s to be produced by the factory, this car had been converted to a replica of the Cunningham Works ‘Long-nose’ car. Featured in Classic Jaguar World (2005/2006), the restoration used the cars original XKSS components that had been retained after conversion. A major project highlighting the fine attention to detail and historical investigation that ensured a finished car as close as we could get to the day it left the factory.

Customer’s criteria - “Find me a donor car that can be brought up to modern road standards while retaining all the charisma and appeal of the original. Will be used for competitions and tours, must obtain FIA papers and enter it for the Le Mans Classic”.

The donor - a standard car with good bodywork restored several years ago, slightly tired interior, running gear overhauled but now tired, engine standard but very oily and tired, 5 speed Gertrag gearbox conversion.

The finished result - full overhaul and upgrade of suspension, source, overhaul & reinstate 4 speed Jaguar gearbox, brake upgrade (including ducting), safety roll-bar, fire extinguisher, battery cut-off, tow-eyes, 300+ BHP engine with good spread of power, upgraded oil and water systems, original spruced up and tidied interior with LWE style bucket seats, race harnesses, FIA papers, etc….

A very refined, user friendly and reliable car that is really enjoyable to drive.

Another wonderfully original and low mileage car belonging to a private collector. The aim of the project was to produce a factory specification finish suitable for today’s driving conditions without ‘sports’ upgrades. The task included engine, gearbox, axle, suspension, chassis, body, electrics, interior trim, paintwork and brightwork  - in fact everything for a full restoration whilst still retaining some of the car’s lovely original period feeling. Managed over several months with stage invoicing, this project is typical of some of the larger jobs we undertake.

XKD517 - Restoring History

IN 1958 an upcoming young driver, Jim Clark, spent a season in XKD517 clocking up 12 wins in 20 races for the Border-Reivers team.

Working from archives and period photographs we have restored XKD517 back to its early original character with great attention to  the finishing details.

“Today XKD517 looks exactly as it did the first time I saw it in pristine condition in the paddock at Oulton Park 50 years ago” - Graham Gauld for Octane Magazine
